Dealing with Trauma
Trauma changes the way we experience ourselves and the world. It can make the body feel unsafe, the mind restless, and the future hopeless. Yet trauma is not a life sentence. It is a state of fragmentation — and fragments can be brought back into coherence.
The first step is honesty: recognising how trauma lives in the body. Tension that never relaxes. Breath that won’t deepen. Muscles braced without knowing why. These are not flaws — they are survival patterns. They kept you safe once. Now they need to be met with compassion.
Healing does not mean erasing the past. It means teaching the body and nervous system to trust the present. It is a slow reintroduction of safety:
- Learning to notice sensations without judgement.
- Using colour and light as gentle mirrors to remind the body of coherence.
- Finding breath again as a rhythm that steadies instead of panics.
- Allowing beauty and symmetry to re-pattern the nervous system toward balance.
There are many approaches to trauma therapy — from somatic practices to psychotherapy to medication. My own work with kaleidoscopic light adds another pathway. By bathing the senses in coherent colour and pattern, the nervous system begins to soften. People often describe the experience as a reset, a remembering of clarity that seemed lost.
The deeper truth is this: trauma is not who you are. It is an imprint of what happened. Beneath the imprint, your essence is untouched — luminous, whole, waiting to be reawakened.
Dealing with trauma is not about fixing yourself. It is about befriending yourself, piece by piece, until your own light feels like home again.
When you are ready, there are tools and spaces to help you return. Light can be one of those guides.
